Ferret Plan a Bust

Two weeks ago I told you about my plan to get me to Blog Paws this year.  I set an extremely high goal of selling 300 stuffed ferrets at a reduced price between 27-50% off of the normal price thinking that many would jump at the chance.
I've had a lot of oohs and awwws, how cute, adorable, ect. but only one buyer. So while I will continue to sew these adorable little ones the price has to go back up starting on Sunday March 30th.
For those attending Blog Paws I will still offer free shipping as I am still working towards getting there somehow. Those that have talked to me about custom ferrets I will let you know the price of those ferrets as they have always been different due to the fact that the material is supplied from other sources.
So until Sunday these guys and any listed on the Enlightened Ferret Fashion's  Face book page are still $10 and Angel $16 each then the prices will revert to the $20 and Angel $22 prices and they will be listed either in the Ferret Fabulous Finds Auction House on Face book or on Etsy.

See someone here you love and want to have you can email me at enlightenedferret@hotmail.com for adoption information. Please let me know if you are attending Blog Paws in the email or if you live outside of the United States.

The Ferret Plan

As many of you know we got our domain name back last week. *Happy Weasel War dance*
I also launched the Ferret Plan campaign to get us to Blog Paws May 8-10 in Nevada but I really didn’t outline how adopting these ferrets will help us.
First, let me say I already have my ticket thanks to The Pet Blog Lady.
60 Ferrets = Hotel Room
25 Ferrets = Vet travel certificate/vaccines for 3 ferrets
60Ferrets = Gas one way
4 Ferrets = Business Cards (3 sets)
60Ferrets= Gas to go home
91 Ferrets = Cash to cover ever thing else like food, tolls, next year’s ticket, ect.
This equals 300 ferrets and the ferret countdown is now to 298.
Yes, this is a very high goal but as each day disappears and Blog Paws gets closer the more it will seem like it is well worth the effort to me.
You have the choice of IMG_1367 for the head, tail, and underbelly. Unless it is a Rainbow or Angel ferret as those are always white.
Right now, the hotel is top priority as the rates go up April 22. All ferrets like Hearts except Angel are $10 hearts and Angel is $16.RainbowFerret
Don't want OTRB Angel then let me know which body you would like Angelfied for the same price as Angel.
These are the available bodies (mind it may take a few minutes for the pictures to load)
ferretbodies2 ferretbodies3
IMG_1387
You can email me at enlightenedferret@hotmail.com about the one(s) you want to adopt and I will send you the adoption information to pay through PayPal.
I will hand deliver if you are going to be at Blog Paws otherwise there is a $6 transportation fee for the US and $25 for International.
In addition, if you have a specific pattern you would like your ferret to be made out of you can email me at the above address and I will give you the information on how to get your own custom ferret.

Cinnamon Update

cinnamon1

About a week ago, I let you know about little Cinnamon a year old yorkie that had been hit by a car and required surgery for his injuries. Here is the update on this little survivor. (Cue the song I will survive)

Thanks to the people at Save a Yorkie Rescue  Cinnamon was taken to Dr. Christopher from Metropolitan Vet Hospital near King of Prussia, PA  to be put back together.

Dr. Christopher and his associates rebuilt this tiny pup. They had to fix a broken femur, a dislocated hip, and basically recreate his shattered pelvis. While he isn’t the six million dollar pup, his medical bill is in the thousands.

The fear was this little guy wouldn’t make it through surgery and if he the prognosis of him walking or even being able to go to the bathroom on his own was unknown.

Not only did this seven-pound fur ball make it through the surgery he has defied the odds and is up and walking and going to the bathroom on his own.cinnamon

He will be on pain meds for a while and shows his displeasure at being handled with some growls and snaps. I think I would be the same way with the number of staples in my backside.

cinnamon2

Cinnamon will be available for adoption after February 23 if you or someone you know would love to help this adorable fellow who has kicked the dirt into the face of certain death. You can submit your application here.

Or if you would like to help decrease his large medical bill, you can donate here.

Please help this little guy get adopted by passing this along to others. Thank you.

Have a Chittering Good Day,

Jo

Save a Yorkie named Cinnamon

I don’t normally write about other critters unless they somehow relate to ferrets so this is a completely different kind of post for me.

Roomie, Judy, started fostering at the beginning of the year in hopes of helping her adopted puppy mill rescue Ariel FashonableFerrets 020 learn how to be a dog.

At the moment, she is fostering CurlyFashonableFerrets 071 who is a seven-year-old yorkie who has cataracts and diabetes and requires insulin twice a day.

She received an urgent email from Save a Yorkie Rescue about another little yorkie named Cinnamon.

Little Cinnamon was surrendered after being hit by a car. This little guy is just a year old and is suffering from one dislocated hip, one  broken hip, along with his pelvis.

As of this writing, we don’t know if he has made it through the surgery that was scheduled for yesterday (February 13, 2013) but the rescue has paid out the large sum of $3000 as a down payment for the surgery and will be owing another $3000 for his care during his recovering if he survived the surgery.

The reality is that Cinnamon may come out of the surgery paralyzed, permanently incontinent  which will make it harder for this little fighter to be adopted.

Knowing that I have many readers who understand special need pets I am hoping that some of you can help this wonderful rescue out by donating to his care even if it is $5 as it does add up and help pass this along so that Cinnamon might find the right forever home.

YorkieLogo-2

By clicking on the Save a Yorkie Rescue logo you will be taken to Cinnamon’s page where you can make a donation.

I Have a Dream

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. day in the United States he is famous for his 1963 Washington D.C. speech “I have a Dream” given in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

Like Martin Luther King Jr. I also have a dream.

Mine is that California removes its unrealistic ban on ferrets and legalizes their residency.

My dream is that others come to understand ferrets and that all the myths and misconceptions are wiped out.

It is also my dream that all the homeless ferrets find their special forever home and never have to want again

Until then my dream is that all the caring people who foster, shelter, and rescue these wonderful little guys are well funded by those that can help make a difference in the day-to-day operations.

Just one bag of food can help reduce the amount needed.

Just one $10 donation to a vet care fund can pay for a month of medication for those in need of adrenal and insulinoma meds.

Just one case of paper towels, Simple Green, or other cleaning supplies help reduce the outgoing costs that can be spent on the ferrets.

What is your dream?

Have a Chittering Good Day,

Jo

Pet Finder’s Less Adoptable Week

Most will be posting about dogs and cats that fall into the category of Less Adoptable due to age, disability, or breed but I am a ferret owner and blogger so my picks will of course be ferrets.

Our first pick is Dexter:

This guy is six years old and is blind in one eye. He also has Adrenal disease. He recently lost his lifelong buddy to the Rainbow Bridge.

If you are looking for a hefty boy to love Dexter can be found at Northern Arizona Ferret Alliance & Rescue, Inc, in Show Low, AZ  928-532-8795

Featured Ferret: Raffles

Hi all my name is Raffles and I am living at the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha, NE

I am a little sable boy and I would love to find my very own forever home with my own hooman to train. We could learn about each other.

Do you know of someone needing daily ferret kisses and a dose of joy?

Raf

Featured Ferret: Savannah

Hello Darlings,

I’m called Savannah and I am looking for the perfect plantation to call home.

Must have caring hoomans that understand that us ferrets have a slight smell no matter what. My last applicants didn’t like my perfume.

Second said hoomans must have time for little old me. I love to cuddle and snuggle but I also like to cut a rug or two.

If you have the right ferret mentality and think you need to have a womanly touch added to your home I’m the gal for you.

You can call Ms Lori here at the shelter in Texarkana, Texas at 903-838-3040 to set up a chaperoned introduction date. Hope to meet you soon.

Ms. Savannah

Disclosure: I receive no compensation for promoting any of the ferrets from the Pet Finder site here on Enlightened Ferret. I chose from the many needing new homes and give them a voice using the information that is available.

Photos of the ferrets come from the site as well and are not mine.

Featured Ferret: Angel

I could be your guiding light. My name is Angel and I am a four year old little chocolate girl.

I am keeping myself amused with the hoomans here at the Pennsylvania Ferret Rescue Centre C in Boalsburg, PA.

I get along with other ferrets and would love to find a forever home with another laid back ferret to hang with. The hoomans here were told I played rough and nipped hard but I have done neither of those things for I am an Angel.

Won’t you be my saving grace?

Angel

Disclosure: I create personas for the ferrets I feature from the Pet Finder site and receive no compensation for doing so other than the hope that one of them will find their forever home.

For those that seek medical advice I am not in the animal medical profession. All information contain on my blog is from research and interviews from those that are knowledgeable in the subjects. If you are having a problem with your ferret please see your vet.

Featured Ferret: Big Bad Brodie

Hey you there! Yes I am talking to you. I want you to be my pet hooman. I am an educated ferret as I was found on the State College campus checking out the students and staff there.

I am not real keen on other ferrets but if you think you can integrate me into your business you are welcome to try but you have to convince these fine folks here at Pennsylvania Ferret Rescue Association of Centre C in Boalsburg, PA a call.

I love to play with the pet hoomans here but they only have a little time for each of us. I suppose I’d get more hooman time if I liked playing with them other ferrets.

I hope you will come take me home or know someone that will.

Brodie Bear.

Disclosure: All the ferrets I select from Pet Finder are by my choice only. I receive no compensation for promoting the adoption of these long furry kids. If I could I’d adopt everyone of them just so they would have a forever home.

For those that keep asking me medical or other advice please know I am not a vet and have no medical experience beyond what I have learned from my own ferrets. For the well being of your ferret or other animal please contact your vet for reliable information.

Jo

Featured Ferret: Lucky

He just felt right to feature today.

Top of da day,

Names Lucky. Fits me right fine as I was left alone in my apartment when my hooman ran away. Thankfully other hoomans found me and brought me here to the Ferret Nook here in Cambridge, WI.

While these fine folks keep me entertained and I can dance with some other ferrets I would rather use my charms on a new pet hooman.

I’d give them my pot of treasure at the end of the rainbow. You did know that is where we kept all our cool stuff right?

Any hooman out there wishing for a charming lad like me?

I am 2 years old and I have the cutest little brown stripe on my nose and I am wishing for the best forever home.

Featured Ferret: Fig

Hi world,

My other hoomans named me Fig but they had to move and the place they are living now don’t allow any critters. Can you believe that? No pets what so ever. My poor hoomans are going to be so lonely without me.

Right now I am exploring the Kitsap Humane Society here in Silverdale, WA. I was showing this hooman I could do some of the paperwork. That was until they got out the clicky box to snap this picture of me.

I am a six month old boy who has experience with cats. I get overly excited and tend to be nippy. With the right hooman I will out grow that bad habit. But it is so hard to control myself when I want to play so much.

I am hoping to find new hoomans that have the energy to keep up with me and let me explore new things. Do you know the perfect hooman for me?

Disclosure: I get no compensation for featuring ferrets from the Pet Finder site or from the shelters that they are residing at. The bios for each ferret are my own created from the information available and are works of fiction unless otherwise noted.

Featured Ferret: Poe

               A Dream

A wilder’d being from my birth

    My spirit spurn’d control

But now, abroad on the wide earth,

Where wand’ rest thou my soul?

In visions of the dark night

I have dreamed of joy departed --

But a waking dream of life and light

    Hath left me broken-hearted.

And what is not a dream by day

To him whose eyes are cast

On things around him a ray

    Turned back upon the past?

The holy dream – that holy dream

While all the world were chiding,

Hath cheered me as a lovely beam

    A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro’ misty night,

    So dimly shone afar --

What could there be more purely bright

    In Truth’s day-star? (1)

Hi, I am Poe. As in Edgar Allan Poe.  I am resting up at the Ferret Waystation here in Austin Texas before wandering in to the right hooman’s heart and home.

I am a wee lad looking for a happy place to bounce, scurry, and dance at along with maybe nicking an item or two for my own special hidey hole.

Any hooman out there that has an affinity for Poe? Or perhaps is just a writer looking for a muse? I can be that too. Richard Bach, he’s a writer you know, has ferrets that are his muses so I know I can be one too.

Or I can just be me and take away the gloom of the day by making you laugh and getting you to chase me. We can have lots of fun together.

Sides they won’t let me out of the Ferret Waystation unless I am with a hooman something about me being to little to be on my own.

My markings make me a Blaze ferret and there could be a 75% chance that I might be deaf

Hope my hooman is reading this right now.

Featured Ferrets for Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day. 2ofhearts

My Valentine

By Martina McBride

If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you

If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I'd still feel for you

And even if the sun refuse to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart
Until the end of time
You're all i need
My love, my valentine

All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
You've opened my eyes
And showed me how to love unselfishly

I've dreamed of this a thousand times before
In my dreams i couldn’t love you more
I will  give you my heart
Until the end of time
You're all I need
My love, my valentine

Will and Widget are from the Williams Animal Control in Knoxville, TN. Will is about 4 years old and Widget is about 6. Their combined adoption fee is $120.

Valentine is from Animal Rescue League of Boston, MA

Disclosure: I do not receive any compensation for promoting these cuties from Pet Finder . I also thought this song fit the day and found a site that had the lyrics. My Valentine is by Martina McBride.

Featured Ferrets: Prince and Diamond

Hiya I am Diamond   and I am Prince wez are two young boyz looking for a new forever home with lotz of toys, a blanket or two, and a hooman which to shower with our love in or around York, PA.

Our first hooman had to move and wez couldn’t go along so wez were brought here to the YC SPCA they are nice hoomanz butz they are busy.

Wez would prefer to find the same forever home as wez have been together for most of our young livez and are considered bonded. Which meanz wez might get depressed if wez are separated.

Do youz need a couple of richly named buddiez to love youz this holiday season? Or do youz know someone who needz some cheering up? Please come check uz out at the YC SPCA.

Disclaimer: I receive no financial incentive to promote these guys or any other featured ferret. I believe that all animals belong in a forever home and not be homeless.

I pick from the many ferrets on the Pet Finder site based on picture, information given, and age. While I am a supporter of senior pet adoptions, I know that not all people are willing or able to deal with the health issues a senior pet may have.

Please before you adopt know what you are getting into. These little ones have already lost a home though no fault of their own they shouldn’t have to lose another home because of misunderstanding of the breed.

Have a Chittering Good Day,

Jo
